About BIÖG

Since February 13, 2025, the former Federal Centre for Health Education (BZgA) has been renamed the Federal Institute for Public Health (BIÖG). This reorientation strengthens public health in Germany and better aligns the public health approach with international standards in health promotion and prevention.

What does this mean specifically?

  • Continuity of tasks: The responsibilities arising from the Act on Assistance to Avoid and Cope with Conflicts in Pregnancy (SchKG) will continue unchanged. Our dedication to public health and our expertise and activities in sexual and reproductive health will remain consistent.
  • Cooperation: The trusting collaboration research institutions, advice centers, associations, and other institutions in the field will continue as usual.

Health education is in the interest of state health policy. In Germany, it is conducted as a comprehensive ongoing task by all state levels, involving those affected. The Federal Institute of Public Health (BIÖG) assumes this task at the federal level as a specialized agency within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG).
